When a disaster strikes, it displaces more than just shelter. Safety, dignity, and the means to sustain life for an entire community are often lost. For thousands of families in Qutabdinwala, Firozpur, Punjab, the Beas and Sutlej river floods of 2025 destroyed homes, livelihoods, and livestock—leaving families without the basic means to survive
For rural communities, a cow or buffalo is not just an animal, it is their bank, food, and in many cases, their only source of income. When a family loses livestock, they will not be able to feed their children, send them to school, or maintain a household. The loss can be catastrophic. But there is good news: there is always hope – one cow or buffalo can be a life line and potentially help a family recover from total loss.
Imagine a family who has lost everything. A donated cow means immediate milk for everyone in the family, and surplus milk can be sold for income in the local markets. A donated buffalo can not only help them to work the land and plough the fields, but also produce milk to help feed the family as they strive for self-sufficiency. This is not charity, this is empowerment.
Your support is important not just for the livestock. Every donation, whether it is diesel for tractors to clear blocked farms, emergency relief, or food and medicine for livestock, can be part of that process. Even the smallest helping hand eg., sponsoring fodder, clothing, or a temporary one-round fuel site visit genuinely helps families towards their independence again.
When we visited and did flood relief work, we sat with families to talk to them who literally had tears in their eyes, having lost their home, their crops, their livestock, etc. I am not embellishing. As devastating as the image was to see, there was hope too. Knowledge of a community and faith in God gave them the strength to rebuild when they were alone together.
